Find a dentist that accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan

The CDCP helps eligible Canadian residents pay for dental care. Here is how it works, what you may pay, and how to find an office near you that takes it.

Who qualifies

  • You have no access to private dental insurance or coverage, including through work, a pension, a family member or a health spending account.
  • You (and your spouse or common-law partner) filed a tax return in Canada for the previous year.
  • Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000.
  • You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

What you pay

Your co-payment is a percentage of the CDCP's established fees, based on your adjusted family net income.

Adjusted family net incomeYour co-payment
Under $70,0000%
$70,000 to $79,99940%
$80,000 to $89,99960%

An office's fees may be higher than the CDCP fees, so you may also pay the difference, plus anything the plan does not cover. Ask the office for an estimate before treatment.

What's covered

Exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, root canals, gum treatment, dentures, extractions and some sedation can be covered when recommended by your provider. Some services, such as crowns and partial dentures, need pre-approval. Orthodontic services are currently not available.

Before your visit

  1. Call the office and confirm it accepts CDCP patients.
  2. Bring your CDCP member card or member number.
  3. Ask what your co-payment and any extra charges will be.
  4. You should not pay the full cost upfront; the plan pays the office directly for covered services.
